All hail the golden age!
In the immortal words of poet/philosopher Justin Timberlake, “
America is cool again”.
"Liberals" are ecstatic that "Sub-moronic Bush the Plunderer" is gone and Obama the charismatic magical "reset button" has brought his undeniable charm to the world stage.
Despite the fact that he got to power by pledging his fealty to the same dark operators every other world leader has throughout history, it is a relief to see the worst President ever leave after setting the lowest watermark for integrity in living memory.
It is not a hard act to follow.
When dark schemer Karl Rove whole-heartedly approved of Obama's cabinet choices it was the finger snap that tore me out from under the infinitesimal fraction of "hope-nosis", that I have allowed to slip past my unfortunately still poorly guarded subconscious.
Many people of colour around the world and Black Americans particularly are celebrating the fact that the role of "The World's Most Powerful Puppet" is no longer the exclusive domain of white folks.
I cannot really blame them, as the illusion of inclusion is one that all subjugated people, regardless of ethnicity, take cold comfort in.
I see it this way :
A lumberjack walks into the woods carrying an axe.
The trees look and full of hope and joy proclaim ,
“Hey look, the handle, he’s one of us!”
Now everybody can roll over and go back to sleep safe with the notion that "Hope" is not a hollow bit of sloganeering while ignoring the inconvenient fact that the vague concept of "Change" was not elucidated in the slightest bit.
Do not let the fact that your house is still on fire interrupt your pristine slumber and those sugary sweet dreams.
America is still an empire with military bases, death squads, torture black sites located all over the globe, unconstitutional police state laws, unprecedented surveillance and a government-embedded foreign lobby that dictates its foreign policy.
Token gestures should not placate anybody with a functioning brain cell left in their skull.
I do not believe in "miracles" but if I happen to see something that resembles one my burning desire to behold “the man behind the curtain” and decipher what his true intentions really are will never be diminished.
Neither should yours.
